Playing with Acrylics
The seagulls are very alluring in their flights, and famouse artist features them in frequently, they might create balance or provide focal point or just an additional subjects to a landscape...
The other painting is taken by my cellphone camera during one of my windy, cold walks at the North Bridge of Edinburgh, behind is the Balmoral hotel and farther down is a glimpse of the Registrate office.
Roses at Dusk
Just a quick painting on Christmas Day!!I have photograph this outside,to catch out the natural light of the sun as it is 3:20pm,and it started to get dark.I dont prefer the artificial light as it makes my work blurry and yellowish. And it will just murder the tones and light captions on the painting..
Passing Sentence
This is the finish painting of the street in front of the Advocates Library in Edinburgh. At first,I planned this as an entry for the Royal watercolour Society contest but now I'am not sure because it doesnt turn out the way I want it to be of which somehow its very dissapointing. This work is what I called hard labour and I give much time planning and painting to get the kind of effect that unpredictable watercolour tricks!!

Above is the next painting I've done yesterday, the 23rd of November.I start at 3:45pm,just when the sun hides and it starts to get dark outside.Unlike the first attemp I choose to change her shirt to red and do the basic preparation by soaking the 300 gsm water colour paper and strecthing it.I focused more here on the lines of the forehead which in over all picture, its the only part that gives me satisfaction, the rest I need to study more and observe carefully. This is finish by 9:45pm but in between that I cook dinner and washed the dishes..not too bad I suppose..
I know I’ve been neglecting this blog of mine for half a year now. A lot has been happening ever since then. The demand for this year is very hectic. Although I did promise to do a painting everyday, and I do most of the time but then February caught up with march for engagement days and preparations for my wedding, then I get commissions with paintings on the following month which carries on until the end of August. Every now and then me and my husband travels around the Philippines, while I wait for my visa to come out, I get another commission every now and then, from USA or locally, And then last September, I was a runner-up for the Windsor and Newton competition. http://acrylics.winsornewton.com/en/win/july_september_2009/
Then we fly out here in UK to settle,(for a moment). And voilah!2009 is almost gone.
So that wakes me up, like “Hey the year is almost over “..!!And yet I feel like I need to be serious. I need to put more emotions, expressions, feelings, depth, and careful composition in every painting of mine. Well its not that I care about other peoples opinion, I always is a rebel and much feel better to express my truest feeling than go with the norms. If I did paint against technical laws, so be it. I remember my first experiment with colors is crayons, then I discover color pens, and then the wonders of Watercolour. But being an 8yrs old, I use everything together. Pencil first for outline, then Water colour, then color pens, then crayons…
So to make story short, now I just decided to do it by the book. Careful observations, few tutorials from the experts in Scotland National Gallery, and that hopefully will do fine.
So for a start here's a series of study of an old woman.Above is the first one I've done in water color,120lbs paper.I start at 2pm and finishes at 6pm.I doesnt come the way I want it to be,but thats the first try to see how I will go...

TIGER

PRIVATE COLLECTION OF SIR DONALD BLACK

Tiger art work and superstitions
The locals would hang Chinese paintings featuring the tiger on the walls of their homes with the tiger facing the entrance. They would do this with the belief that the image of the tiger carried the potential to drive away demons and protect the house from any sort of evil. The tiger is believed to have a special Ch’i energy which is the reason why Feng Shui practitioners made use of tiger paintings in this manner.
The ancients of China had their own legendary belief regarding the image of the tiger. The animal was considered to be one of the many animal gods. Furthermore they elevated the tiger to the position of being the guardian spirit of agriculture. The farmers would make use of different kinds of tiger based art work to drive away the drought demon.
The tiger has been featured in many different ways in the Chinese culture. Military men were also seen carrying the image of the tiger painted on their shields. This was done in order to frighten the enemy as the tiger was painted in a pouncing pose looking as ferocious as ever.
The Chinese had another unique belief regarding the tiger. They believed that tigers could live for more than a thousand years. According to their beliefs a tiger would turn completely white after crossing the age of five hundred. Hence any tiger art work featuring a white tiger actually means that the tiger has crossed the age of five hundred. They also believed that once a tiger passed away its spirit would enter the earth and become Amber. Historically we find that the Chinese used to call the Amber stone as the soul of the tiger.
